Bouquets of sharpened pencils…

Hello friend,

Like Kathleen Kelly, I like to write my notes to you as if we are already in the middle of a conversation. I’d like to think that I might call you friend if we met in real life, if we happened upon each other in a bookstore, or a coffee shop. Our shared taste in books forever linking us. But I do that sometimes. The more you get to know of me, the more you will come to hopefully appreciate the fact that I will most likely make things awkward. But I like to think that it’s charming and somewhat endearing.

I like books. I figured I’d clear the air of that, just in case my website title didn’t make that fairly obvious. The one thing in life I cherish more than anything else is diving into a good book. My friends and family will be the first to tell you that if I could ever make a life out of getting paid to read, I would find a way to make it happen. So, I decided to start a website. Do I have all sorts of grandiose ideas about what this may one day become? Of course. But, for the most part, I’m just excited to have a venue for carrying on about books, any time that I want.

The more I thought about this site, the more I decided that I should have some sort of framework for my book discussions. I mean, I can just review books all day long with no rhyme or reason, but I don’t know how much attention that may hold for the average internet browser. I began to realize that book lists are where it’s at. There are book lists for all categories, feelings, places; I could do everything from the “Rory Gilmore Book Challenge” to “Penguin’s 100 Classics”…but I like to go as big as I can. There is a book that was published about a decade ago called “1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die” (Google it, it’s a fairly decent list)…and I want to work my way through all of them. But I also don’t want to stop reading whatever strikes my fancy. So….I guess I may not have the structure that I originally intended, but I like to think that the more I do this, and the better I get at it, the more easy it will be for everyone to follow.

I also like book clubs. And I have been trying to follow along with Reese Witherspoon’s book club, so I’ll be doing that too. I promise, it will not be as crazy as it sounds. At least I don’t think it will. And if it ends up being just a lot of fun for me, well, that’s what life should really be about anyway. Every book I read gets a review; that’s the simplest of all explanations. And that’s where all of the fun begins.

So feel free to check back often. I’ll keep you up to date on what I’m currently reading, and what I plan on starting next. Be sure to suggest a book that you think I’d like, join me in reading something from my “to be read” pile, disagree with a review I have written…if it means that we get to talk about books, I am absolutely game.

Let’s stroll the stacks and find a wonderful adventure!

CR: Happiness: The Crooked Little Road to Semi-Ever After by Heather Harpham for Reese’s book club, The Shining by Stephen King as my random 1001 Books selection, and The Spectacular Now by Tim Tharp just because.

Drop a comment and let me know what book is currently occupying your time and your night-stand!
